The eras this page's records fall in are drawn solid; the others are hollow.
How we know: Each bar runs the years printed on that era's panel, and which eras a page falls in is the archive's grouping of its records, not the length of anyone's career.
Organising the sport
1987 · Likely
Cycle News of 25 February 1987, in a notice of appointments, reports that Kawasaki had named a new head of Team Green, which it calls Kawasaki's amateur MX and ATV racing support program, replacing Bruce Stjernstrom, Team Green manager for the past four years, who left to assume a new position as vice president of the International Jet Ski Boating Association.

1991 · Likely
Two directories dated 1991 in their item records, read only as search highlights, list him as the association's vice president. The Encyclopedia of Associations, 1991, volume 1, prints "Bruce Stjernstrom, V.Pres." in its entry for the International Jet Ski Boating Association (IJSBA), and International Organizations, 1991, prints "Stjernstrom, Bruce, V.Pres." against the same association in an index entry. Both belong to one publisher's directory series, so the archive counts them as one statement and not two independent ones. Reading the directories' Bruce Stjernstrom as the man of the 1987 notice rests on the name, the association and the post, which is the archive's inference.

1997 · Likely
Cycle News of 19 March 1997 reports that Kawasaki Motors Corporation, USA had appointed Bruce Stjernstrom manager of its motocross team, and says he had most recently been serving as manager of the International Jet Sports Boating Association (IJSBA), the name the association's trademark record gives as first used on 2 January 1992, and that he worked for Kawasaki from 1979 until 1987, serving as manager of Team Green, the company's amateur support program; the item does not say when he became manager, which the 1987 notice puts four years before February 1987. He is quoted on moving from the personal watercraft industry to the motorcycle industry. This item names the Team Green manager and the association's officer as one man. It calls his association post manager. The documents read print three titles for him at the association: vice president in the 1987 notice and the 1991 directories, Managing Director in the association's release dated 6 February 1997, and manager in this item. None of these documents says why the titles differ (read 2026-10-09).

1997 · Likely
The association's release announcing the 1997 IJSBA Jet Sports Tour schedule, dated 6 February 1997 and held as the Personal Watercraft Illustrated site carried it in a capture of 24 June 1997, quotes IJSBA Managing Director Bruce Stjernstrom on the tour's return to Florida and its race at the Three Rivers Regatta, on the event organisers the release says would produce and promote nine of the ten events, which he said let the association concentrate on sanctioning and officiating, and on television, which the release says was still undecided for the tour. Reading him as the man of the 1987 notice rests on the name and the association, which is the archive's inference.

Recognition
The IJSBA's hall of fame page names the hall the Jacobsen-Stjernstrom IJSBA Hall of Fame and says it was created in 2006 and dedicated to Clayton Jacobsen and Bruce Stjernstrom. The page gives no reason for the dedication, and reading its Bruce Stjernstrom as the association's former vice president is the archive's inference from the name and the association.

What the archive has not read (2)
- Cycle News prints two first names for the Team Green manager's post in 1983. Its issue of 24 August 1983 names Bruce Stjernstrom acting team manager and its issue of 9 November 1983 attributes an announcement to Team Green Manager Bruce Stjernstrom, but its issue of 21 September 1983 says Russ Stjernstrom was named to the post. The archive does not settle which is right and ties nothing to the name Russ. None of the three items names watercraft, and the November item describes Team Green as a programme for motorcycles and three-wheelers, so none of them is a claim here (read 2026-10-07).
- As searched on 2026-10-07 (archive.org full text for Stjernstrom with IJSBA, jet ski, watercraft and Havasu, and the Cycle News OCR of 1980 to 1992), and with the association's 1997 tour release read on 2026-10-09, no document read says what he did as the association's vice president. The documents give him three titles there: vice president in 1987 and 1991, Managing Director in the release dated 6 February 1997 (captured in June 1997), and manager in Cycle News of March 1997. None says when a post began or ended beyond those dates, and the release is the only one that quotes him speaking for the association, on its 1997 tour. Later volumes of the same directory series, read only as search highlights, still list a Bruce Stjernstrom as the association's VP, one of them dated 1998 in its item record, after Cycle News reports him back at Kawasaki in March 1997; because a listing can outlast the post, those volumes are not used to date it. No edition before 1991 was found.

- Cycle News 25 February 1987 (archive.org): Cycle News, 25 February 1987 (archive.org OCR excerpt: NAMED notice, Team Green and the International Jet Ski Boating Association), Cycle News, 1987-02-25; editorial, medium. A NAMED notice in a motorcycle weekly's column of industry notices: a new head of Team Green, Kawasaki's amateur MX and ATV racing support program, replacing Bruce Stjernstrom, Team Green manager for the past four years, who left to assume a new position as vice president of the International Jet Ski Boating Association. Medium for the paper's own news; the association is named and the post is new in February 1987.
- Encyclopedia of Associations 1991 vol 1 (archive.org): Encyclopedia of Associations, 1991, volume 1: entry for the International Jet Ski Boating Association (archive.org full-text search highlights), Encyclopedia of Associations (Gale Research), read through the Internet Archive's full-text search, 1991; encyclopedia, medium. A lending book, so only search highlights could be read: short OCR passages from the association's entry, not in page order. They name Bruce Stjernstrom, V.Pres., as the entry's officer and print Founded 1982, 10,000 members, a staff of five and the publications Jet Skier Magazine (quarterly) and IJSBA News. A directory entry is compiled from what the association returns, so its officer and founding year are the association's own statement; medium for the officer the edition lists. The 1991 date is the item record's. Address and telephone numbers are replaced in the held copy.
- International Organizations 1991 (archive.org): International Organizations, 1991: executive index entry for the International Jet Ski Boating Association (archive.org full-text search highlights), International Organizations (Encyclopedia of Associations series, Gale Research), read through the Internet Archive's full-text search, 1991; encyclopedia, medium. A lending book, read only as search highlights. Its executive index prints "Stjernstrom, Bruce, V.Pres." against the International Jet Ski Boating Association, entry 9817. Compiled from the association's return, like the volume 1 entry of the same year, so the two listings are one publisher's and not independent of each other. Medium for the officer the edition lists; the 1991 date is the item record's. The street address, and the end of another body's telephone number, are replaced in the held copy.
- Cycle News 19 March 1997 (archive.org): Cycle News, 19 March 1997 (archive.org OCR excerpt: Kawasaki appoints Bruce Stjernstrom motocross team manager), Cycle News, 1997-03-19; editorial, medium. A news item on Kawasaki's appointment of Bruce Stjernstrom as manager of its motocross team from 15 March 1997. It says he had most recently been serving as manager of the International Jet Sports Boating Association (IJSBA) and had worked for Kawasaki from 1979 until 1987 as manager of Team Green, and quotes him on leaving the personal watercraft industry. Medium for the paper's own news. It is the one document read that names the Team Green manager and the association's officer as one man. The item's last sentence, on another person, is not copied.
- USPTO record serial 74242748 (tsdr.uspto.gov): Trademark Status and Document Retrieval record, serial 74242748, registration 1757293 (IJSBA International Jet Sports Boating Association), United States Patent and Trademark Office, 1993-03-09; government, high. The status view was read on the accessed date (the search shell at the hash address returns no data to a plain request). Mark text, owner name and address, filing date 3 February 1992, first use 2 January 1992, registration 9 March 1993, class 041 services, the disclaimer of the words, and the cancellation of 9 March 2000 for want of a Section 8 declaration were all read. The published date is the registration date.
- IJSBA 1997 tour schedule release (web.archive.org): 1997 IJSBA Jet Sports Tour Schedule Announced, IJSBA release dated 6 February 1997 as carried on watercraft.com (captured June 1997, excerpt), International Jet Sports Boating Association, as carried by Personal Watercraft Illustrated (watercraft.com), 1997-02-06; sanctioning body, medium. The association's release announcing its 1997 national tour, dated 6 February 1997 in its own dateline and read as the magazine's site carried it in a Wayback capture of 24 June 1997. It quotes IJSBA Managing Director Bruce Stjernstrom on returning to Florida, on the event organizers who would produce nine of the ten events, and on television. Medium because it is read through a magazine's copy and not from the association. The excerpt keeps the heading, the opening and the three quoted passages.
- IJSBA hall of fame page (ijsba.com): The Jacobsen-Stjernstrom IJSBA Hall of Fame (IJSBA page), International Jet Sports Boating Association; sanctioning body, high. The association's own roster, read on 22 September 2026, giving the hall's name, its creation and dedication in 2006, and inductees by year to 2014, names only. It publishes no selection criteria and no citation for anyone.
Changes to this page
- 2026-10-09: Added the association's 1997 tour release, which quotes him as IJSBA Managing Director on the tour's venues, its event organisers and television. The sentence on his title now lists the three titles the documents print, and the gap on his posts names them and their dates.
