The eras this page's records fall in are drawn solid; the others are hollow.

How we know: Each bar runs the years printed on that era's panel, and which eras a page falls in is the archive's grouping of its records, not the length of anyone's career.

Design and invention

1991 and 1992 · Confirmed

US patent 5,114,368, Shaft shielding top loader, filed on 1 April 1991 with a related application of 12 December 1989 and granted on 19 May 1992, names him as Don R. Moyle, first of two inventors, the other being Glendon L. Dilworth. It claims a plate in a jet pump's water inlet that divides the incoming water into upper and lower parts, with a partition that shields the impeller drive shaft. The co-inventor, and the name Don R. Moyle printed in the trademark record, tie the patent to the Jet Dynamics partner, and the company's own page sells a patented Shaft Shielding Toploader.

1991, 1992, 1993, 1994 and 1996 · Confirmed

Three US design patents name him, as Don R. Moyle, with the same co-inventor: D325,917, Fluid flow directing element for watercraft, filed on 29 March 1991 and granted on 5 May 1992; D335,484, Watercraft skid plate, filed on 7 October 1991 and granted on 11 May 1993; and D366,444, Jet-pump watercraft intake grate, filed on 13 October 1994 and granted on 23 January 1996, which prints the two names in the other order. Each claims an ornamental design as shown and described. The co-inventor, printed on patent 5,114,368 and in the trademark record, ties them to the Jet Dynamics partner.

Confirmed

Four of the later US patents by other inventors list his top loader patent among their references, printed there as Moyle or Moyle et al.: 5,234,361 and 5,281,177, granted in 1993 and 1994, then 5,540,605, granted in 1996, and 8,905,800, granted in 2014, which prints it as cited by the applicant. The first two also discuss it, in their accounts of earlier designs, as an attempt to bring a vane inside the intake channel.

Business

1996 and 1997 · Confirmed

USPTO's record of the JET DYNAMICS mark, for personal watercraft intake grates and ride plates, gives its owner as Jet Dynamics, an Idaho partnership composed of Glen L. Dilworth and Don R. Moyle. The application was filed on 1 October 1996 and the mark registered on 2 September 1997; the registration was cancelled in 2004 for want of an acceptable Section 8 declaration.

Likely

The Times-News of Twin Falls, Idaho, reported on 8 March 1992, in a photo caption, that he and Glen Dilworth, both described as veteran jet boat racers, had formed Jet Dynamics to make and market their inventions. The company's own page, which names both men as its founders, gives 1990 as the year it was founded; that is the company's account, and the newspaper gives no year.

What the archive has not read (3)

  • The company's own page says it was founded in 1990 by Glen Dilworth and Don Moyle and that Glen acquired all rights to Jet Dynamics in 1998; both are the company's own account and no other document read records either, so neither is stated here as fact, and no document other than that page says when his part in the company began or ended (searched the archive's mirror and research cache, 2026-10-07).
  • No personal watercraft result sheet held names him, and the jet boat racing the newspaper mentions is outside this archive (searched the archive's mirror and research cache, 2026-10-07).
  • The drawings of the three design patents were not read, so no shape is described (checked 2026-10-07).
