The eras this page's records fall in are drawn solid; the others are hollow.

How we know: Each bar runs the years printed on that era's panel, and which eras a page falls in is the archive's grouping of its records, not the length of anyone's career.

Design and invention

Likely

The Watercraft Journal's report of May 2023 describes him as a former professional freestyle and freeride competitor who developed an adjustable handlepole before his own skis, and the RRP release it prints names the handle pole as the company's first product.

2013 · Likely

The Watercraft Journal reported on 30 December 2013 that he and RRP had launched their own hulls and complete skis a few years before, naming the Rickter FS, FR, RC, XFR, XFS and Ninja, and that RRP was opening a factory in Thailand where carbon-fibre and glass-fibre hulls were built by hand.

2016 · Likely

TeXtreme's 2016 release says Rickter offered its spread-tow carbon reinforcement as an option on the EDGE FS, EDGE FR, XFS and RC-1 for 2016, and fitted it as standard to the XFS Ninja Competition freestyle model.

Business

2016 · Confirmed

A TeXtreme release of 2 May 2016 quotes him as the founder and owner of Rickter-RRP. The Watercraft Journal in May 2023 says he worked under the name Rick Roy Products, RRP, and made his own line of stand-up and fixed-seat skis, the Rickter skis.

2023 · Likely

RRP's release of 26 April 2023, printed by The Watercraft Journal, announced the end of Rickter hull production at the company's Rickter Composites factory in Thailand, called the halt temporary, and said its RRP parts division was not affected.

Confirmed

The RICKTER mark, for personal watercraft hulls and related composite parts, is registered to Rickter R.R.P. Performance Inc., a corporation organised in Canada. It was filed on 19 June 2023 and registered on 2 July 2024, and the owner claims first use on 31 October 2008. The registry names no person.

Recognition

Likely

The association's hall of fame lists Rick Roy among its 2006 inductees. The roster prints the name alone, so reading it as the Rickter founder rests on the name, an inference.

What the archive has not read (3)

  • The 2016 release calls him a freestyle world champion and The Watercraft Journal in 2013 a multiple world champion. The association's champions page, a finding aid, lists a Rick Roy for Pro Freestyle in 1996 and 1998, and the archive holds no World Finals result sheet for either year (checked 2026-10-05 against the sheets held for 1999, 2004, 2008, 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2019 and the 2013 entry list), so no title is on this page.
  • The 2013 report says a rider on an RRP ski won Pro Freestyle at that year's World Finals. The archive's 2013 sheet is a class list of entries, not results, so that result is not on this page (checked 2026-10-05).
  • No held document dates the founding of RRP or of Rickter (searched the archive's mirror, 2026-10-05; a retailer's page, seen only in a copy saved during research, dates RRP's work from 2005, a retailer's word, not used). 31 October 2008 is the trademark owner's claimed first use of the RICKTER name.
